Nowadays, security – both in the sense of ‘safety’ and ‘security’ – is a global concept, and the sense of safety among the population and within organizations and national institutions is a key objective and likely one of the most valuable assets to consider.

Although these two concepts are both translated into the word ‘security’ in Portuguese, they refer to distinct perspectives that should not be confused.

In a broader sense, ‘safety’ can be defined as the prevention of unintentional acts resulting from the lack of safety in work equipment, infrastructure, or due to carelessness and/or human negligence.

In other words, ‘safety’ is intrinsically related to health, physical integrity, protection from hazards, and the absence of risks caused by unsafe conditions.

On the other hand, the concept of ‘security’ is related to the protection of assets, personal security, sovereignty, and national stability.
